Birthing Process
The birthing process, or labor, involves the uterus contracting to help the baby move from the womb through the birth canal. It begins with cervical dilation, where the cervix opens to allow passage. During active labor, contractions become stronger and closer together. Once fully dilated, the mother pushes to help deliver the baby through the birth canal. After the baby is born, the placenta—the organ that nurtured the baby—detaches and is expelled. This process can vary in timing and experience but generally follows these stages: early labor, active labor, delivery of the baby, and afterbirth.
