Biosafety Level 1-4 (BSL-1 to BSL-4)
Biosafety Levels (BSL) 1 to 4 are standards designed to protect people and the environment from dangerous biological agents. BSL-1 involves handling agents not known to cause disease in healthy people, with basic precautions. BSL-2 handles moderate-risk agents with additional safety measures. BSL-3 involves pathogens that can cause serious illness, requiring controlled access and specialized equipment. BSL-4 is for the most dangerous agents that can cause severe or lethal diseases, requiring full-body suits, sealed labs, and rigorous safety procedures. Each level increases protective measures to match the risk posed by the microorganisms being studied.
