Bioprosthetic Valves

Bioprosthetic valves are artificial heart valves made from animal tissues, such as pig or cow tissue, designed to replace damaged or diseased natural valves in the heart. They function to regulate blood flow, allowing it to move efficiently through the heart and body. These valves are chosen for their durability, biocompatibility, and ability to reduce the need for long-term blood-thinning medications compared to mechanical valves. While they may not last as long as mechanical valves, bioprosthetic valves often lead to fewer complications and are especially suitable for older patients or those who cannot tolerate blood thinners.
