Biological vectors
Biological vectors are living organisms, often insects like mosquitoes or ticks, that transmit disease-causing pathogens from one host to another. Unlike mechanical vectors, which just carry germs on their bodies, biological vectors play an active role in the lifecycle of the pathogen, often allowing it to develop or multiply inside them. When the vector bites or feeds on a person, it introduces the pathogen into their body, potentially causing illness. This process is common in diseases like malaria, dengue, and Lyme disease, making biological vectors crucial factors in disease transmission.
