Biodiversity Management Committees

Biodiversity Management Committees (BVMCs) are local groups established under India’s Biological Diversity Act to help conserve and sustainably use local plant and animal species. They include local residents, scientists, and officials who work together to identify, document, and protect biodiversity in their area. These committees raise awareness, implement conservation activities, and ensure the rights of local communities are respected. By involving communities directly, BVMCs promote responsible stewardship of natural resources, supporting both ecological health and local livelihoods.
