BINAP

BINAP, or 2,2'-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,1'-binaphthyl, is a chiral (asymmetrical) compound used as a ligand in chemistry to help catalysts shape and control chemical reactions. It has a unique, three-dimensional structure that allows it to guide reactions toward producing specific, often more useful or desired, molecules with high precision. BINAP is especially important in the development of pharmaceuticals and other complex chemicals, as it enables efficient and selective formation of complex compounds through asymmetric catalysis, where the chirality provided by BINAP influences the three-dimensional arrangement of the product.
