Biko, Steve
Steve Biko was a South African anti-apartheid activist and leader of the Black Consciousness Movement during the 1960s and 1970s. He advocated for blacks to recognize their own worth and resist racial oppression and discrimination under apartheid—a system of institutionalized racial segregation. Biko promoted self-awareness, pride, and unity among black South Africans, inspiring resistance through education and political activism. He was imprisoned multiple times and ultimately died in police custody in 1977, becoming a symbol of resistance and the struggle for equality in South Africa.
