Bicuspid Aortic Valve

A bicuspid aortic valve is a heart condition where the aortic valve, the valve that controls blood flow from the heart to the body, has only two leaflets instead of the normal three. This congenital (present at birth) variation can cause the valve to function improperly over time, leading to issues like narrowing (stenosis) or leaking (regurgitation). While some people experience no symptoms, others may develop heart-related problems, requiring monitoring or treatment. It’s a common birth defect and can be diagnosed with imaging tests like echocardiograms. In many cases, it can be managed effectively with medical care or surgery if needed.
