Bharat Chhodo Andolan

The Bharat Chhodo Andolan, or Quit India Movement, was a major protest launched by India’s independence leaders in August 1942, demanding the British colonial government leave India. Led by Mahatma Gandhi, it called for massive civil disobedience, mass protests, and nonviolent resistance across the country. The movement aimed to accelerate India’s struggle for freedom during World War II when Britain was distracted. Despite facing brutal repression, it united millions of Indians in the fight for sovereignty, ultimately strengthening the push that led to India’s independence in 1947.
