Beylerbey
A Beylerbey was a high-ranking Ottoman official who governed large provinces called eyalets or sanjaks. The term means "bey of beys," indicating a leadership role among other local leaders called beys. Beylerbeys had administrative, military, and judicial authority within their territories, reporting directly to the central government in Istanbul. Their responsibilities included collecting taxes, maintaining order, and overseeing military defense. They played a crucial part in the Ottoman Empire's governance, helping to manage the empire's vast and diverse lands effectively. The position was both military and administrative, often held by experienced officials or noblemen.
