Betz cells
Betz cells are large nerve cells located in the primary motor cortex of the brain, responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movements. They are among the biggest neurons in the human body and have long axons that extend from the brain through the spinal cord to communicate directly with motor neurons in the spinal cord. This allows them to send signals that initiate precise, voluntary muscle contractions, enabling activities like speech, walking, and fine motor skills. Their size and direct connection to the nervous system make them key players in voluntary movement control.
