Berry (Synsepalum dulcificum)
Berry (Synsepalum dulcificum), commonly called miracle fruit, is a tropical berry native to West Africa. Its unique feature is that it contains a molecule called miraculin, which temporarily binds to your taste buds and alters sweet and sour perceptions. When you eat the berry, sour foods like lemons taste sweet, even though the fruit itself isn’t sweet. This effect can last from about 30 minutes to a couple of hours. Miracle fruit is often used as a natural way to reduce sugar intake or create fun flavor experiences without added sugar.
