Berliner Mauer

The Berliner Mauer, or Berlin Wall, was a barrier built by East Germany in 1961 to prevent citizens from fleeing to West Berlin and beyond. It divided East and West Berlin during the Cold War, symbolizing the ideological and political divide between communism and democracy. The wall was heavily guarded, with watchtowers and barbed wire, and its presence separated families and communities for nearly three decades. In 1989, widespread protests and political changes led to its peaceful fall, marking a significant step toward German reunification and the end of Cold War tensions.
