Berlin-Baghdad Railway

The Berlin-Baghdad Railway was a planned rail network built in the early 20th century to connect Germany with the Ottoman Empire (modern-day Turkey), via the Middle East. Its goal was to strengthen economic and strategic ties, facilitate trade, and enable quicker military movement between Germany and its allies. Although parts of the railway were completed, political tensions, regional conflicts, and financial issues hindered its full completion. The railway symbolized imperial ambitions and increased tensions among European powers, contributing to the complex geopolitical landscape leading up to World War I.
