Berardius bairdii
Berardius bairdii, commonly known as Baird's beaked whale, is a large marine mammal found in deep, cold ocean waters around Japan, Russia, and Alaska. It belongs to the family of beaked whales, known for their elongated noses and deep-diving abilities. These whales are elusive and spend most of their lives submerged, hunting squid and other deep-sea creatures. They can grow up to 10 meters (about 33 feet) long and weigh several tons. Baird's beaked whales are important indicators of ocean health but remain poorly understood due to their remote habitat and elusive nature.
