Benzo (Benzodiazepines)
Benzodiazepines, often called "benzos," are a class of medications that help manage anxiety, insomnia, seizures, and muscle spasms. They work by enhancing the effect of a calming neurotransmitter in the brain called GABA, which helps reduce overactivity and promote relaxation. While effective for short-term use, they can cause dependence if used long-term and may lead to side effects like drowsiness, confusion, or coordination problems. Because of these risks, they should be used carefully under medical supervision and typically for limited durations.
