Benjamin West was an influential American-born painter (1738–1820) known for his historical and portrait artworks. He played a key role in bridging the artistic styles of the 18th century, blending Neoclassicism with expressive storytelling. He also became the first American artist to gain international recognition, later serving as the second president of the Royal Academy in London.
