Bengali script
The Bengali script is a writing system used primarily for the Bengali language, as well as Assamese and some other languages. It is an abugida, meaning each consonant has an inherent vowel sound that can be modified with diacritics. The script features horizontal lines called "shirorekha" that run along the top of words, connecting characters. It consists of 11 vowels and 39 consonants, with additional signs for nasal sounds and other modifications. The script's rounded shapes are due to traditional writing on palm leaves, which favored curved strokes to prevent tearing. It is visually distinctive and highly adaptable for literary and cultural expression.
