Bellaire Anomalies (bends)
Bellaire Anomalies, also known as bends, occur when nitrogen gas bubbles form in the bloodstream after rapid ascent from deep diving or high-pressure environments. During ascent, the pressure decreases quickly, causing dissolved nitrogen to come out of solution and form bubbles. These bubbles can block blood flow, leading to symptoms like joint pain, dizziness, or more severe neurological issues. Proper decompression procedures, such as gradual ascent and safety stops, allow nitrogen to safely leave the body, reducing the risk of bends and ensuring a safer return to surface.
