Beighton Score

The Beighton Score is a simple, standardized way to assess joint flexibility and identify hypermobility, which is when joints move beyond their normal range. It involves performing specific movements, such as bending the little fingers back, touching the palms to the wrists with the hands, or bending the knees and elbows in certain ways. Points are awarded for each movement, and a higher total score indicates greater joint mobility. This score helps healthcare providers evaluate if someone has excessively flexible joints, which can be associated with conditions like Ehlers-Danlos syndrome or other connective tissue disorders.
