Behavioral isolation

Behavioral isolation is a form of reproductive barrier where different species or populations develop distinct behaviors—such as unique mating rituals, songs, or signals—that prevent them from interbreeding. Even if they live in the same area and could physically mate, these behavioral differences discourage or prevent successful reproduction, maintaining separate gene pools. This kind of isolation helps species evolve independently by reducing gene flow between populations, and it plays a critical role in the process of speciation.
