Beer's Law describes how the concentration of a substance in a solution affects the amount of light it absorbs. Specifically, it states that the more of the substance present, the more light it blocks or absorbs. This relationship is linear, meaning if you double the amount of substance, the absorption also doubles. Scientists use this principle to determine how much of a substance is in a solution by measuring its transparency or absorbance at a specific light wavelength.
