Bede (the Venerable Bede)

Bede, known as the Venerable Bede, was an influential 8th-century Anglo-Saxon monk and scholar from England. He is best remembered for his detailed writings on history, theology, and science, especially "The Ecclesiastical History of the English People," which is considered one of the most important sources for early British history. Bede's work helped shape medieval understanding of Christian history and learning, and he is often called the "Father of English History." His scholarly contributions advanced the study of chronology and helped preserve classical knowledge during a time of cultural transition in Europe.
