BCL-6
BCL-6 is a protein that plays a critical role in the immune system by regulating the development and function of certain immune cells called B cells. Located mostly in the cell nucleus, it acts as a transcriptional repressor, meaning it can turn off specific genes to control cell growth and differentiation. Proper BCL-6 activity is essential for normal immune responses, especially in forming antibodies. However, abnormal BCL-6 expression or mutations are linked to certain types of lymphomas (cancer of the lymphatic system), highlighting its importance in maintaining immune system balance and preventing disease.
