Battle of the Saintes
The Battle of the Saintes, fought in 1782 during the American Revolutionary War, was a naval confrontation between Britain and France near the Caribbean island of Dominica. The British fleet, led by Admiral Sir George Rodney, managed to decisively defeat the larger French fleet, commanded by Admiral de Grasse. This victory prevented the French from capturing British-held territories in the Caribbean and shifted control of sea routes away from the French. The Battle of the Saintes is considered a turning point that boosted British naval dominance and influenced the outcome of the wider conflict.
