Battle of Taranto

The Battle of Taranto was a significant naval attack on the Italian fleet by British aircraft carriers on November 11-12, 1940, during World War II. Using specially designed torpedo planes launched from aircraft carriers, the Royal Navy severely damaged over half of Italy’s battleships stationed at Taranto, Italy. This daring strike demonstrated the effectiveness of carrier-based aircraft and marked a turning point in naval warfare, influencing future tactics. It also temporarily weakened Italy’s naval power in the Mediterranean, helping the Allies gain strategic advantage in the region.
