Battle of Prestonpans
The Battle of Prestonpans, fought on September 21, 1745, was a key confrontation during the Jacobite Rising in Scotland. Jacobite forces led by Bonnie Prince Charlie outflanked and decisively defeated the government army, which was trying to stop their advance into Scotland. The battle took place on an open battlefield near Prestonpans, east of Edinburgh. The Jacobites utilized surprise tactics and effective use of terrain, resulting in a swift victory. This battle boosted the Jacobite cause temporarily, demonstrating their military strength, but ultimately did not secure lasting independence for the supporters of the Stuarts.
