Battle of Panium

The Battle of Panium, fought in 198 BCE, was a key conflict between the Seleucid Empire and the Ptolemaic Kingdom near the Panium River in modern-day Israel. The Seleucid forces, led by Antiochus III, aimed to expand northward and reclaim territories lost to Egypt. The Ptolemaic army, defending their border, was defeated, allowing the Seleucids to gain control over the region of Coele-Syria, including parts of modern-day Israel and Lebanon. This victory solidified Seleucid influence in the eastern Mediterranean and marked a significant shift in regional power dynamics between these Hellenistic kingdoms.
