Battle of Noryang

The Battle of Noryang, fought in 1598, was a decisive naval conflict during Japan’s invasions of Korea. Allied Korean and Chinese fleets, led by Admiral Yi Sun-sin and others, faced the Japanese navy off the coast of Noryang. Despite heavy Japanese fire and loss of several ships, the Koreans and Chinese overwhelmed the Japanese forces, blocking their retreat and effectively ending the invasion. The battle was notable for Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s strategic leadership and his innovative use of turtle ships. It marked a crucial turning point in the Korean resistance and the eventual Japanese withdrawal from Korea.
