Battle of Mukden

The Battle of Mukden (1894-1895) was a major conflict during the First Sino-Japanese War, fought near Mukden (modern Shenyang) in China. Japan and Qing China’s Qing army clashed as Japan aimed to expand its influence in Korea and Manchuria. It involved over 600,000 soldiers and was one of the largest land battles at that time. After months of fierce fighting, Japan gained the upper hand, ultimately forcing China to retreat. The victory marked Japan’s emergence as a major military power in Asia and led to the Treaty of Shimonoseki, which ceded territory and increased Japanese influence in the region.
