Battle of Lwów
The Battle of Lwów occurred in September 1939 during the early stages of World War II, when Nazi Germany invaded Poland. Lwów (now Lviv, Ukraine), a major city, was targeted as part of the wider Soviet and German invasion. The Polish defense of Lwów involved both military fighters and civilians trying to resist the advancing forces. Despite courageous efforts, the city fell to the Germans after about two weeks. The battle highlighted the rapid collapse of Polish resistance at the war’s outset and marked a significant loss in Poland’s defense during the invasion.
