Battle of Krojanty
The Battle of Krojanty, fought on September 1, 1939, near Krojanty in Poland, was an early clash between Polish cavalry and advancing German forces during World War II. Polish cavalry units, traditionally seen as mounted troops, engaged German infantry and armor in a surprise attack. However, the Germans counterattack using motorized infantry and tanks, causing confusion and heavy losses for the Poles. The battle is often remembered for the misconception that Polish cavalry charged German tanks; in reality, they fought as mobile infantry, aiming to delay and disrupt the enemy's advance during Poland's defense against the invasion.
