Battle of Kircholm
The Battle of Kircholm, fought in 1605 near present-day Lithuania, was a significant conflict during the Polish–Swedish War. The Polish-Lithuanian forces, led by Hetman Jan Karol Chodkiewicz, faced a much larger Swedish army. Despite being outnumbered, the Polish-Lithuanian troops used disciplined tactics and their elite cavalry, the Winged Hussars, to effectively counter the Swedish forces. The battle resulted in a decisive victory for Poland-Lithuania, showcasing the effectiveness of trained, well-led armies against larger but less coordinated enemies. It is considered one of the most remarkable cavalry battles in European history.
