Battle of Detroit

The Battle of Detroit (1783) was a pivotal moment at the end of the American Revolutionary War where British forces, still holding Detroit and surrounding areas, tried to retain control amid American and Native American opposition. American and allied Native forces laid siege to the British-held fort. Ultimately, the British surrendered, giving the United States control of Detroit and the Northwest Territory, which was vital for westward expansion. This battle marked the end of British influence in the region and helped establish U.S. sovereignty over the Great Lakes area.
