Battle of Chancellorsville
The Battle of Chancellorsville, fought in May 1863 during the American Civil War, was a Confederate victory in Virginia. General Robert E. Lee’s forces outmaneuvered a larger Union army led by General Joseph Hooker through clever tactics and surprise attacks. Despite being outnumbered, Lee's risky decision to divide his troops paid off, but it came at a high cost—Lee’s trusted general, Stonewall Jackson, was mistakenly shot by his own troops and later died. The battle showcased Confederate strategic brilliance but also highlighted the personal toll of war.
