Battle of Bicocca

The Battle of Bicocca, fought in 1522 near Milan during the Italian Wars, was a significant conflict between the Holy Roman Empire and France. The Imperial forces, allied with Spain and their allies, aimed to assert control over Italy. The French army, led by the Duke of Bourbon, tried to defend their position but was overwhelmed because the Imperial troops used strong artillery and disciplined tactics. The victory solidified Imperial and Spanish influence in northern Italy, preventing France from expanding its control there for some time. It was a key moment demonstrating the effectiveness of well-coordinated land forces and artillery in 16th-century warfare.
