Battle of Badajoz

The Battle of Badajoz in 1812 was a key conflict during the Peninsular War, part of the larger Napoleonic Wars. Allied forces, mainly British, Portuguese, and Spanish troops, besieged the French-held fortress city of Badajoz in southwest Spain. After a prolonged and intense siege, they launched a vigorous assault, breaching the city's defenses and capturing it. The victory was strategically significant, as it weakened French control in the region and boosted Allied morale, but the battle also resulted in heavy casualties and highlighted the brutal nature of sieges during this period.
