Battle of Assaye
The Battle of Assaye, fought in 1803, was a significant confrontation between the British East India Company and the Maratha Empire in India. Led by General Arthur Wellesley (later the Duke of Wellington), the British faced tough Maratha forces but managed a decisive victory through strategic planning and effective use of artillery. Despite being outnumbered, Wellesley's disciplined troops overcame the larger army, establishing British dominance in central India. This victory boosted British confidence and played a key role in expanding their control over India, shaping the region's colonial history.
