Batak language

The Batak language is an Austronesian language spoken mainly by the Batak people in North Sumatra, Indonesia. It comprises several regional dialects, such as Toba, Karo, Simalungun, Pakpak, and Mandailing, each with unique features. The language features its own script called Surat Batak, used traditionally for writing and ceremonial purposes, alongside the Latin alphabet. Batak is an integral part of Batak culture and identity, preserving oral traditions, customary laws, and rituals. Despite modernization, it remains vital for community cohesion and cultural continuity among Batak communities.
