Basque Autonomy (Basque Country)
The Basque Country is a region in northern Spain with a distinct cultural identity, language (Euskara), and strong historical traditions. Since the late 20th century, it has enjoyed a high degree of self-governance through the Basque Autonomous Community, which has its own parliament, executive authorities, and control over areas like education, health, and taxation. This autonomy stems from the 1979 Statute of Autonomy, which acknowledges the Basque Country's unique identity and grants it significant self-rule within Spain, while remaining part of the Spanish nation.
