Basij Militia

The Basij Militia is a volunteer paramilitary organization in Iran, formed in 1979 to support the government and maintain internal security. Composed mostly of civilians, including students and workers, it operates under Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Basij engages in various activities such as enforcing moral codes, assisting in disaster relief, and participating in military training. While they serve as a tool for the government to promote its policies, they are also seen as a means of fostering grassroots community involvement and loyalty.
