Bashir Al-Bashir (Omar al-Bashir)
Omar al-Bashir is a Sudanese military officer who served as the country's president from 1989 to 2019. He came to power through a military coup and led Sudan for nearly 30 years. His presidency was marked by internal conflict, including a long civil war that led to the independence of South Sudan, and accusations of human rights abuses, particularly during the conflict in Darfur. In 2019, widespread protests led to his ousting. He faces international charges of genocide and war crimes but remains a significant, controversial figure in Sudanese and African history.
