Base-60 (sexagesimal)

Base-60, or sexagesimal, is a numeral system that uses 60 as its base. Instead of counting in tens as in decimal (base-10), it counts in sixties. This system originated in ancient Mesopotamia and is still used today in measuring time (hours, minutes, seconds) and angles (degrees). For example, one hour equals 60 minutes, and one minute equals 60 seconds. Numbers are expressed with digits separated by colons, such as 2:30:45, representing 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 45 seconds. The use of 60 allows for many precise divisions because 60 has many divisors, making calculations and subdivisions easier.
