Barter Systems

A barter system is a method of exchange where goods and services are traded directly for other goods and services, without using money. For example, if a farmer has apples and needs bread, he might trade a certain quantity of apples with a baker in exchange for bread. Bartering relies on a mutual agreement on the value of the items being exchanged, which can sometimes make transactions complicated. While less common today due to the convenience of currency, barter still exists in various forms, particularly in local communities and for personal exchanges.
