Barrique wine barrel

A barrique is a small wooden wine barrel, typically holding about 225 liters (59 gallons), made primarily from oak. Winemakers use barriques to age wine, allowing it to develop richness, complexity, and subtle flavors from the wood. The size and material of the barrel influence the wine’s texture and taste, imparting notes such as vanilla, toast, or spice. The smaller size compared to standard barrels means more surface area is in contact with the wine, accelerating maturation and flavor integration.
