Barons of the Exchequer

The Barons of the Exchequer were high-ranking judges in medieval England responsible for overseeing the Exchequer, the royal treasury. They handled financial matters, such as collecting taxes and resolving disputes related to government revenue. Over time, their role expanded to include judging legal cases involving financial and administrative issues. Their court, known as the Court of Exchequer, was one of the principal royal courts and contributed to the development of the English legal system.
