Barlow test

The Barlow test is a simple clinical procedure used to check if a newborn's hips are able to be gently moved out of their normal position, which helps identify hip instability or potential dislocation. During the test, a healthcare provider gently flexes the baby's hips and knees, then applies gentle outward pressure on the thighs while feeling for any movement indicating the hip might slip out of the socket. If the hip feels unstable or "clicks" during this maneuver, further evaluation may be needed. This test helps detect developmental hip dysplasia early, enabling timely treatment.
