Barlow Maneuver
The Barlow maneuver is a clinical test used to check for hip instability or dislocation in infants. The healthcare provider gently places the baby on their back, with knees bent and hips relaxed. They then gently press the thigh of each leg downward and inward, feeling for any click or looseness indicating the hip might slip out of its socket. This test helps identify developmental dysplasia of the hip, allowing for early intervention. It’s typically performed in neonatal exams to ensure hips are properly formed and stable.
