Barkley model

The Barkley model is a cognitive framework that explains attention and self-control by emphasizing the interaction between an individual’s internal impulses and their ability to regulate behavior. It suggests that behaviors like impulsivity and attentional control arise from the balance between the brain's automatic response tendencies and the effortful processes needed to override them. In essence, it views self-regulation as a dynamic interplay between quick, instinctive reactions and the mental effort required to manage or inhibit those reactions, helping to understand conditions like ADHD or impulsivity issues.
