Barasingha
Barasingha, also known as swamp deer, is a species of deer native to India and Nepal. Recognizable by its impressive antlers, which can have up to 12 tines (points), this deer prefers wet grasslands, marshes, and swamps. They are social animals, often found in herds, and primarily feed on grasses, aquatic plants, and reeds. Barasingha play a crucial role in their ecosystem by maintaining vegetation balance. Due to habitat loss and overhunting, they are now classified as vulnerable, with conservation efforts focused on protecting their natural wetlands to ensure their survival.
